Description
Photograph of a large, three-story brick educational building near Marfa, Texas. The building has architectural embellishments around the windows and along the roofline, as well as Classic revival-style architecture in the front, with two-story columns around the front entrance. There is also a square tower visible at the back of the building. The image accompanied a written speech, with the caption: "With the more important mission of staying alive relieved somewhat, the citizens of Marfa, Aloine, and Ft. Davis dedicated more time to the education of their children. A school was started in 1885 by Kate Barnhart in Marfa. High schools were built in all three towns..." (p. 9). This building is identified as Marfa Public High School, which burned down in the early 1900s.
