Annotation
The LA County Office of AIDS featured "Beso Transparente" in their "AIDS/Living Responsibly" campaign. Its title directly translates to "Transparent Kiss" and features an image of two men kissing with an equilateral cross superimposed on top of it. Outside of the cross, one sees graphic gestural lines that echo the view of the virus under a microscope, hinting at a positive diagnosis. Over his career, the artist has received criticism for producing the images he loves out of concern they may be controversial, but he has rejected that censorship. Reyes created this piece using monoprinting techniques, as seen in another of his works, "Informate o Inflamate", which also deals with AIDS. (Author: Ivy Broder)
