Annotation
One of the first silkscreens the artist created, it is inspired by various music venues, dance clubs, and performances that featured Goth, British pop, and Rock en epañol. It captures the vibe and fashion that Saldamando was seeing in the late 1990s to the early 2000s. Saldamando loosely depicts women she knows, including her own self-portrait. The graphic quality of the print was influenced by the Hernandez Brothers’ Love and Rockets comic book style. The print is connected to a suite of images depicting East Side punk venues, such as The Vex, which was briefly housed inside Self Help Graphics and Art. (Author: Genesis Maravilla)
