Self-Help Graphics and Art developed a print collection in response to the Los Angeles Riots of 1992, which featured “Herido.” The riots began with an unjust verdict following the severe beating of an African American motorist, Rodney King, by four white policemen from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), who were found not guilty of their excessive force charges despite the event being caught on video. The city rose to protest, which involved violence, arson, and looting. The main subject depicts an Angel in the City of Angels (Los Angeles) who was part of the riots, and behind him are flames. Reyes uses secondary colors with high contrast to create a visual vibration sensation when looking at the work. Reyes used a 6-color separation printing technique, similar to what is seen in another of his works, "Tension." (Author: Ivy Broder)
